Following the summer’s shootings, Uppsala municipality is now intensifying its focus on security in schools, as reported by both Aftonbladet and Sveriges Radio.
Olof Oskarsson, who is the Head of Municipal Primary Schools, says that the most important thing now is to meet the students and address their concerns as they return to school.
After a year-long pilot project, Uppsala municipality has decided to implement the Cosafe alarm app in the municipality’s primary schools, becoming a complementary tool for school staff in their safety efforts.
— When working on these issues, you quickly realize that communication is crucial. Since schools generally lack such a communication capability, we have chosen this app solution where we can quickly alert a group of staff or any other group if something happens, says Olof Oskarsson.
So, it’s an additional tool for school staff to use?
— Yes, I would say it’s a very powerful tool. During the previous school year, two schools tested this app to ensure that it was the right tool for us and that it meets our needs. It does, so this autumn, more schools will have access, and then we have a goal for all schools to have this app.
