After nearly two years of joint ongoing deadly violence exercises, one of Sweden’s most experienced experts in active, ongoing lethal violence joins Cosafe’s advisory and training team.
Cosafe is bringing on Tomas Koppelman Hellgren as a security advisor within Cosafe Advisory. With a background as a police superintendent and regional response commander in the Stockholm police region, he is one of Sweden’s most experienced experts in ongoing lethal violence. The appointment is the result of nearly two years of collaboration, during which Cosafe’s platform was tested and rehearsed in live scenarios together with police, ambulance, and rescue services.
For many years, Tomas Koppelman Hellgren has been responsible for training and exercises related to attacks on public spaces such as schools, shopping centers, and hospitals, and has led security work during several high-profile incidents. Cosafe’s customers now benefit from that expertise through Advisory, Cosafe’s advisory and training business.
The collaboration began when Koppelman Hellgren, in his role within the police, was responsible for a series of joint exercises in which Cosafe was used as a communication tool. Together, the two parties have carried out around twenty deadly violence exercises, including with the City of Stockholm, progressively testing and evaluating how critical communication works when multiple parties need to coordinate under pressure.
– For nearly two years, in my role as a police officer, I’ve had the privilege of working with Cosafe on live exercises together with healthcare and rescue services, among others. We’ve carried out a number of exercises together, including around twenty with the City of Stockholm. That’s where I came to understand how crucial crisis communication is, and that Cosafe is much more than a technical solution. The technology is part of it, but it’s the whole picture that makes the difference, says Tomas Koppelman Hellgren.
Through Advisory, Cosafe’s customers gain unique access to training and exercises on how to respond to ongoing lethal violence, life-saving interventions, and crisis leadership, combining theory and practice with the platform serving as the communication tool throughout the exercise. Many organizations have the documentation in place, but fewer have staff who are trained, drilled, and ready to act. That is the gap Advisory is built to close.
– In our region, we’ve spent nearly two years testing, training, and evaluating together with ambulance services, police, and other stakeholders, with Cosafe as an important part of that work. Now it feels like we’re better prepared and have strengthened our resilience. It will be exciting to put everything we’ve learned in live exercises to concrete use for Cosafe’s customers, says Tomas Koppelman Hellgren.
– Having Tomas join Cosafe Advisory strengthens an already strong team. He knows what actually works when theory meets reality, and that’s exactly the experience we want to give our customers access to, says Richard Julin, CEO of Cosafe.
